Deer

Three deer at Laytham, surprised like three ballet dancers mid practice. Perhaps they are the same three I saw at the outset of Britain's military involvement in Iraq. I was angry then. Angry enough to write to my MP. Angry enough to demonstrate. It was in vain. The invasion happened. I saw three deer then, and calm came over me. These deer are not at war, I thought. Neither am I. This morning, seeing them in the mist, there is the same sense of calm.
